Utilization

It can be used in place of a common plaster or any other room wall decorative material. IZOLUX-dekor makes an ideal material to be applied on plaster boards.

Features

IZOLUX is a decorative paper-based plaster with excellent heat and noise insulating properties that is manufactured in white shade.

Composition

It is a mixture of crushed paper wool with colour decorative additives and water-based glue.

Packaging

1 PE sack:
7kg or 4kg of dry IZOLUX mixture.
1 package:
glue-dry powder.
1 package:
decorative additive (depending shade and kind) per 1 package of IZOLUX.

Wall pre-treatment

Old wall with several layers of old paint

Old layers should be removed (mechanically, by water,etc.). The wall should be penetreted prior to IZOLUX spraying.

In case of not too old plasters acrylate white paint can be applied as well.

New wall with lime-based paint

It is enough to roughen slightly the wall surface. All earth based layers should be removed.

It isn't recommended to aply IZOLUX on wood or woodchip wals, or on walls made of highly absorping and swelling materials, because in the course of drying in rooms with inadequate ventilation the wall can absorp water and swell, which always leads to permament distortion of the wall and plaster.

It is recommended to apply IZOLUX on a small piece of wall prior to applying it on the whole wall (the wall should be penetreted accordingly), to let it dry to check visually whether the penetration works efficiently enough. IZOLUX should not take out off the wall colour substances that reveal themselves as colour, mostly yellow, spots.

If some colour (especially yellow) spots appear after the IZOLUX has dried, it is possible to bleach them (see the Renovation).

Plaster preparation

Capacity of the vessel to make the mixture should be chosen considering the weight of dry IZOLUX. The volume can be calculated from the formula saying that a kilogram of dry IZOLUX makes after it is mixed with water and glue about 7,5litres of mixture.

You will need about 7,5litres of water (inclusive the water to makes the glue mixture) to disolve a kilogram of dry IZOLUX. This formula relates only to the mixture to be applied manually (by a trowel or roller) on the wall (It depends on the type of the sprayer to make the correct mixture in case of using a sprayer).

  • For 1 package 7kg-52,5 litres water.
  • For 1 package 4kg-30 litres water.

The vessel to make the mixture should have a corrosion-resistant inner surface, preferably plastic, or a really very well protected surface without any potential to develop corrosion.

  1. Fill in a not too big vessel (e.g. a plastic bucket) with lukewarm water and slowly add the glue stirring the mixture thoroughly till it thickens. Then pour the mixture into a large vessel stirring it intensively, adding the glue slowly to prevent knobs forming (they would deteriorate the plaster quality). This procedure should be repeated till all the glue for that particular package is spent. The mixture should be left in the vessel for about 2-3 hours with occasional stirring. The knobs that might form should be removed by a colander.
  2. Dose IZOLUX slowly into the mixture with mashing in thoroughly. In case there is not water enough, add it in the course of the process. The result should be the mash plaster.
  3. Let the mash plaster mature for about four hours, or overnight.

To apply IZOLUX with colour additives it is recommended to make mixture enough to cover at least one wall to achieve a colour-even result. In most cases all walls in a room are decorated in the same shade. In such a case it is recommended to make mixture enough to cover all the walls. If, for instance, you want to decorate about 30-35m2 with the layer of the thickness of 2mm, take two bags (i.e. 14 kilograms) and corresponding volume of additives to make homogenous mixture. Otherwise there is always a danger of making “maps” of slighthly different shades, therefor take instruction booklet. It must be mashing properlly.

Dosing the additives

All additives can be poured into the mixture in the process of making the plaster.

Laying on the plaster

The plaster is applied on a wall by a common trowel or roller. If correct ratios are kept, the plaster can be applied by anybody who has just minimum experience with Do-It-Yourself jobs. The plaster can be applied by a sprayer as well. It makes a big grain decorative structure on the wall.

Note

Prior to laying on the plaster on the wall you should check the quality of it on a small piece of the wall. In case the procedure of making the glue mixture is not followed, cracks can appear in the layer of the plaster after it is laid on the wall. The reason can be either little, or much glue in the mixture. It is necessary to remedy the flaw by either adding the glue, or water. Another reason can be glue residues on the roller. It is necessary to také off the roller in water and keep it wet all the time.

Drying

The plaster layer is dry within a day, or a few days, depending on the temperature, humidity and ventilation of the room. To speed up drying it is recommended to warm the room by heaters and to provide for adequate air circulation.

Mending flaws

Flaws that may appear can be mended by moistening the spot thoroughly, after which:

  • the flaw is cut out, a new layer is laid on and rolled evenly,
  • the flaw is rolled while adding a bit of plaster, if needed.

After the plaster has been applied on all the walls, there is usually some nub of the plaster left. It can be used later to mend possible defects. You can make a ball of it, squeeze it to remove water and let it dry. Then it is enough to put it in water and possibly add some wall-paper glue, if needed. After the ball is puged a little and left to mature for about four hours, the plaster is ready again to be applied on the wall.

Removal of an old layer of IZOLUX plaster

Simply moisture the layer thoroughly a remove it by a trowel or other suitable tool.

Renovation

In case you want the old plaster to be renovated after a couple of years, you can do it in several ways:

  • it can be removed (see above),
  • it can be decorated by spraying,
  • it can be sprayed by water paints, or by a roler,
  • a new layer of IZOLUX can be laid on the old one,
  • the old layer can be whitened by a suitable tool, which eats Izolux to the white color. Usually such means are sold as sprays with mechanical spraying systems. The wall should be sprayed evenly and left to dry while airing the room properly. It is necessary to follow the safety instructions of the spray manufacturer.

Mostly one litre of such a remedy is enough for about 7m2 of the wall.

Capacity

Out of one package-7kg:
you can make about 16-20m2 of plaster.
Out of one package-4kg:
you can make about 9-12m2 of plaster.

Safety instructions

General rules and instructions in force within building industry should be followed when working with the IZOLUX.
